My velvet pocket notebook

Early December thoughts

[From December 3]

I cannot believe how November quickly passed by, and now it’s December! I think November’s been the “quickest” month for me this year, with all the travel planning I had to do before our Palawan weekend getaway.

Packing was exhausting, and I had to make sure everything was in place because we traveled with our elderly parents. I wanted it to be smooth because it's only a 3-day vacation. I also wanted to give my parents the respite they deserve from all the work they do every day, without the typical hassle you'd encounter in transit to a rural place.

Thank heavens, our trip was seamless and I enjoyed everything Palawan and Port Barton had to offer, even for a short time. It’s also been such a long time since we had a family trip and I enjoyed my parents’ company. I felt happy watching their puerile joy and abandon as they explored the bucolic wonders we visited.

Monthly Goals

One of my goals this month is to write a short, quick piece every day. My writing has been terrible because I’ve been so busy at work and in life, in general. By the time the clock hits 6 PM, my body just wants to lay down, rest, and watch random TV series.

I haven’t had the time to show up for myself. To harness my innate skills and do what I truly live for.

So, here I am. Jotting about what happened lately and today.

Just moments ago, I decided to start writing because the music blasting from the streets stopped. I knew I would be in a much better mood once silence descended upon my ears.

Planning our Taiwan Trip

I’m currently planning me and my sister’s upcoming trip to Taiwan. Time is of the essence, because affordable hotels are being booked, and destination reservations are running low!

It felt like yesterday when I was planning our Palawan trip, and I can’t believe I’m now planning this! I also can’t believe I’m back to being that traveler again, that girl that I was in my early 20s. Hahah.

Anyway, crafting a detailed itinerary for our Taipei-Taichung trip is taking up a lot of my time because of the transportation details. Back in Vietnam, we would only take Grab taxis to go and fro certain destinations.

But Taipei is a much expensive city and the only way we can afford to jump from one place to another is via public transportation. I know language would be a challenge so I am painstakingly writing down the bus and train stations where we would ride and alight. This way, we would arrive at our destinations on time, and not get lost.

I hope I finish “Day 1” soon and move on to the next days quickly.

I can already feel the exhaustion of the commute I’m scheduling. But I know it will be worth it. I know the fresh sights, new people, and immersion in a different culture will invigorate my senses.

So, happy planning to me, I guess? 🥂
