My velvet pocket notebook

log #1

  1. I may have experienced the most grueling brownout in my life, which started on the afternoon of April 30th and ended at 2 AM on May 1st. The heat index was oscillating between the high 30s and low 40s (Celsius), and we were all relying on handheld fans to alleviate the heat and humidity. Turns out, the generator in our street has failed and exploded? It took some time for it to get replaced, leading us to stay up all night due to the agonizing heat.

  2. It’s been a week since I watched the final episode of Shōgun and I’m still in awe at how impeccably written and crafted this series was. I’m now on a reading rabbit hole on the Japanese shogunate and the samurai culture because of the series.

  3. I’m still reading Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, and wow, it is indeed a chronicle. There are moments when it can be dragging, but I haven’t found myself exhausted while reading it. However, I’m a bit disappointed because I have higher expectations with this novel, considering how it’s vouched for by many Murakami lovers. But who knows? I’m halfway through the book, and things might take a different turn by 60% or so. But so far, it has not exceeded my favorite Murakami book, Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage. This book is hands down, amazing. Easily one of my most-loved reads from last year.

  4. I just started watching Orange is the New Black on Netflix. I find it hilarious and frank so far, and I might keep on watching it as a background show while doing light work and tasks.

  5. I have a ton of things to do left unscheduled due to my favorite weekly calendar being out of stock. I have checked Papemelroti online and physical stores, but they don’t have it available. Hopefully, they aren’t phased out because I rely on them a lot for my weekly productivity.

  6. Out of the mountain of tasks I have yet to schedule is my Vietnam trip next month! I’m currently in Phase 1 of planning. I’m just researching and absorbing more about the place to get a clear picture of what to bring, where to go, and what to prepare for, etc. I’m just casually combing through blogs and not putting anything else on paper yet.
