My velvet pocket notebook

Sick September

September was an arduous month of recovery from The Piercing Flu (or whatever virus struck me, my mom, and my sister).

For the first two weeks, I was perforce confined at home, desperately trying to get through the demands of a working day. My efforts were proven ineffectual and futile as the pervasive cold, cough, and lethargy from this virus beat my body to a pulp.

So, after recovery, during the other half of September – the latter two weeks – I tirelessly worked to make up for the lost time. I also ran urgent banking and medicine errands.

It was not an ideal month (at least so far).

My aim was to do serious business this September, especially for my study schedule. I also wanted to visit some coffee shops and establishments for self-reflection and journaling. But plans were stalled at an instant, and I had no choice but to accept the forced inactivity, and be the placid and stoic adult through it all…

So, I read several books, watched and re-watched films as I bedrot for almost two weeks.

📖Favorite Books

  1. Dengue Boy by Michel Nieva
  2. Careless People: A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed, and Lost Idealism by Sarah Wynn-Williams
  3. Audition by Katie Kitamura

*I loved all the books I’ve read this month. They were unlike anything I’ve read before: a speculative arthropod-centric climate fic, a spicy fin-tech exposé, and a surreal, feminist contemporary fic, respectively.

📺Favorite TV Series

  1. Sirens by Molly Smith Metzler
  2. Tempest by Jeong Seo-kyeong
  3. Hawaiian Life Season 13

Note: I didn’t like the films I watched this month, hence the absence of the list.

I earnestly hope October will be a healthy, active month for me and my family.
